Talking about his career, he started his career in 2002 by engaging in boxing. He began training in boxing at the Azteca Gym in Bell as a kid. He is also a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
In 2009, he started refereeing MMA matches along with some other popular MMA refs like Herb Dean, and Big John McCarthy. Further, he has officiated some of the mega bouts during his 10-year career, such as Nate Diaz vs. Josh Thomson, and Jon Jones Vs. Alexander Gustafsson etc. He has replaced Herb Dean as the official after the latter suffered an injury for the 232 heavyweight title bout.
