Josh Gates birth, childhood, and education
Josh Gates was born on 10 August 1977 in Manchester-by-the-sea, Massachusetts, the USA. It is a small town to the northeast of Boston. He is currently a resident of Los Angeles, California. His mother was English and his father used to travel often for work. Talking about them, Josh had said:
“I think my parents probably got me started. My father, who is retired now, was a deep sea diver for his entire career. So as a kid growing up, my father was always working overseas, and then coming home from these really exotic places. And, as a little kid he would be working in Africa somewhere or in the Middle East and would come home with gifts and stories, and I think from an early age had this sense that, ‘Wow, there’s kind of a big world out there.’ And my mother’s British, and so we would go over to Europe every year to visit our family over there.”
He has studied at the Tufts University in Medford and completed his graduation in 1999 with a joint degree in Archaeology and Drama. He is a certified SCUBA diver. He has also studied abroad in Israel with the University of Maryland about deep-sea excavations from 1996-1998. He is allergic to English Ivy.
Josh Gates career
He moved to Los Angeles and started work as a photographer and at the same time was looking out for the chance at on-screen acting. He did a few commercials and non-speaking roles till 2002. He then appeared on the ESPN series Beg, Borrow and Deal. He also did an experimental and exposing series called Truly Famous in 2006.
He has also won an award for the accurate narration of Richard Pelzer’s A Brother’s Journey. After training with two friends, Josh has climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa. He has also scaled the Mt. Aconcagua in the Argentine Andes.
From 2007 to 2012, he has hosted Destination Truth on Syfy. There were five seasons of this show and it used to show and investigate paranormal happenings. It is now aired on Travel Channel. He has traveled to more than 100 countries and his name has been included in The Explorers Club.

He has been the host and executive producer of Expedition Unknown which airs on Travel Channel. He globe trots and unveils the legends and mysteries of the places. He has done a number of other shows and programs for the television. He has also penned his memoir called ‘Destination Truth: Memoirs of a Monster Hunter which gives an account of his various encounters with dangerous creatures.
Josh Gates marriage and wife
Josh is married to his Destination Truth co-star Hallie Gnatovich on 13 September 2014. While shooting for the ‘Secrets of Christopher Columbus, he received a satellite phone call from his wife revealing to him for the first time that she is pregnant. Josh was emotional on hearing the news and was seen talking to his cameramen and crew about what his wife had said.
This was filmed by the crew and was aired in the episode. His son, Owen was born on 12 February 2016.
