A man who cooks with soul, Chef Michael Symon is best known for his appearance in cooking television shows. Some of these shows include The Chew and Iron Chef America, etc. He is also known as the James Beard Foundation Award winner.

He was born as Michael D. Symon on 19 September 1969. He experienced her childhood in Cleveland and raised in North Olmsted, Ohio. His parents were Angel Symon and Dennis Symon. Has mixed ethnicity of  Greek, Italian, and Eastern European.

He studied at St. Richard School in North Olmsted. He also went to St. Edward High School in Lakewood and got his graduation in 1987. In 1999, he graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York.

The Cleveland native, Symon creates boldly flavored, deeply satisfying dishes at his four restaurants. His restaurants are located in America’s heartland (Lola, Lolita, Roast and B Spot).  As an ‘Iron Chef on the Food Network‘ and as a co-host on ABC’s The Chew he also shares his cooking style and recipes with viewers

While Michael shines on television, he is a genuine hometown guy who made his name cooking in his Midwestern restaurants, all of which became critically acclaimed. Lola was opened in 1997. Lolita was opened in 2005. It is a Mediterranean-style bistro in Cleveland’s historic Tremont neighborhood. Likewise, Roast was opened in 2008 and B Spot opened in 2009, this showcased his passion for burgers, bratwurst, and beer.

Michael has appeared on several Food Network shows. He is the author of four best-selling cookbooks.  In 2009, Michael first cookbook was published. The name was ‘Michael Symon’s Live to Cook: Recipes and Techniques to Rock Your Kitchen‘. In that book, he shared about home cook-friendly recipes that draw on the flavors of his heritage.

In 2010, On four Food Network/Cooking Channel shows, Michael hosted Food Feuds and Cook Like an Iron Chef. He competing on Iron Chef America.

Awards and Achievements

In 1998, he was rewarded as Best New Chef by Food & Wine magazine. Michael and his restaurants have been awarded numerous honors. In 2010, he was the first chef ever to host the annual Farm Aid benefit concert.

His restaurant B Spotted on the list of “Top 10 Best New Burger Joints”. At the SoBe Wine & Food Festival, B Spot’s Fat Doug burger was able to win the People’s Choice Award. In 2009, For Best Chef Great Lakes Michael earned The James Beard Foundation Award. His restaurant Roast was given a name as ‘Restaurant of the Year’.  In 2000, his other restaurant Lola as one of ‘America’s Best Restaurants’chose by Gourmet magazine.

In 2008, Michael won season 1 of The Next Iron Chef.  That earned him a permanent spot on the panel of esteemed Iron Chefs. In 1998, He made his debut on the network. In the year 2007, he was declared as Best Local Chef which was decided by Cleveland Magazine. He has received the James Beard Foundation Award in 2009.
