She commenced her career as a reporter at KHNL-TV in Honolulu in 1995. She worked with them for 2 years. From 1999 to 2003, Nancy Cordes worked with WJLA-TV and was based in Washington DC.
She had covered the news related to Pentagon attack of 11 September 2001, the 2000 Presidential race and results, DC-area sniper attacks, and the Bosnian peace-keeping efforts. Talking about the election reporting, Nancy Cordes had said:
