Toronto Hockey League (OHL)
Before heading to North America in 2015 to play major junior hockey for the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League, Juolevi was raised in the Jokerit program (OHL).
After playing for London for one season, the Canucks selected him in the draft. He applies pressure and a heavy layer of it in any case.
A powerful skater with good balance can backcheck quickly through the neutral zone and rush the puck with ease.
Although he plays within his physical limitations, he makes use of his height to his advantage.
And instead of playing overly aggressively, Olli establishes himself by demonstrating his elite playmaking abilities and puck control.

Juolevi got knee surgery and was forced to sit out the remainder of the season after finishing his first AHL season with 13 points in 18 contests.
Juolevi’s 2018–19 season was ended prematurely by injury, so he was returned to Utica to start the 2019–20 season.
After contributing 5 points in 14 games, Juolevi had an injury again in November of 2019, but he rapidly healed and was able to play again.
Up to the COVID-19 epidemic necessitated the suspension and subsequent cancellation of the 2019–20 AHL season, Olli played in 45 games for Utica and accrued 25 points.
Making one’s Canucks debut
During Vancouver’s Qualifying Round game against the Minnesota Wild in the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs, Juolevi made his NHL debut with the Canucks.
He was present for 6:16 of Vancouver’s 5-4 overtime victory over Minnesota to advance to the First Round.
The next season, Juolevi earned a spot on Vancouver’s roster for the first time in his career right out of training camp.
He scored his first goal of the season on January 25, 2021, as part of a 7-1 victory over the Ottawa Senators.
World Championships

Olli Juolevi underwent knee surgery and missed a season
Olli Juolevi keeps defying expectations, but not in a positive way.
The Vancouver Canucks’ No. 5 overall pick in the 2016 draft was unable to earn a berth on the team’s roster in 2017 and was thus sent back to his native Finland.
Juolevi has played for their AHL team, the Utica Comets, for the duration of this season.
Although the young defender’s leg was injured, he was only out for a few weeks. Last week, Juolevi resumed his work with the Comets.

Juolevi underwent knee surgery today, but the Canucks confirmed this evening that he will miss the rest of the season.
The reality is that the top pick in the current draft will have to wait until the following season to make his NHL debut.
He might have to wait even longer if Juolevi’s knee injury turned out to be more serious than initially believed or if the team opted to play it carefully.
Although there is no guarantee, Vancouver is hoping he will be fully recovered by training camp.
To prove that he is ready for the big league, he will probably need to start another season in the minors.
Recovery
According to the Canucks’ medical staff, “surgery was the best course of action for Juolevi’s long-term health and professional success”, according to a press release from the organization.
The question of whether the team believed they would need him early in the following season or this one remained, but there was, obviously, no comment.
If there was any question, the top defensive prospect for Vancouver is currently University of Michigan defenseman Quinn Hughes, who bypassed Juolevi.
Hughes, who was selected by the Canucks with the seventh overall pick in June, is anticipated to take the starting role at the very least for the upcoming campaign.
Juolevi’s progress has recently been impeded by injuries and underwhelming outcomes, therefore its future is likewise uncertain.
