The British musician Ranking Roger was a vocalist in the 1980s two-tone band the Beat. He died recently on 26th March 2019 due to cancer. Ranking Roger is considered a fighter as he fought against his illness.

Ranking Roger first started his career as a drummer for the band ‘Dum Dum Boys’. After playing with this band, he got to meet and perform together with a more famous band ‘The Beat’. Similarly, joined ‘The Beat’ and released three albums namely ‘I Just Can’t Stop It’, ‘Wha’ppen?’ and ‘Special Beat Service’.

However, the band broke up in 1983 which gave Roger and fellow ‘The Beat’ vocalist Dave Wakeling chance to team up and form a new band. Later a band called ‘General Public’ was born. This band produced hit songs like ‘Tenderness’ and ‘I’ll Take You There’. Likewise, 4 years later ‘General Public’ broke up and he tried his hand at a solo career with the album ‘Radical Departure’.Moreover, he collaborated with many different artists such as ‘The Police’ and ‘The Clash’.

Talking about 2019, Roger worked on his new album, Public Confidential which released in January but could not continue to appear in live events because of his health. Furthermore, he wrote his autobiography which will release in early summer as per the Beat’s website.
