Leg kicks, elbow strikes, and knee attacks were not allowed since Roufus followed the Full Contact rules.

This changed, though, once he took on Muay Thai fighter Changpuek Kiatsongrit in a non-title match in Las Vegas on November 5, 1988.

Leg kicks were permitted in the fight, but elbows remained illegal. During the fight, he succeeded in breaking Changpuek’s jaw, but he was ultimately defeated by the lethal leg kicks.

The American public and fighters grasped the potential of Muay Thai after this battle, making it regarded as the fight that altered history.

In a similar vein, Rick and Duke later tried to learn certain Muay Thai moves that they could use in future battles.

He competed in 78 kickboxing matches during his career, winning 65, losing 9, drawing 1, and losing 1. He competed in kickboxing from 1985 through 2012.
