Ron Claiborne is an American journalist and news anchor for ABC News and he has been on the network for nearly 32 years. Out of these, Ron Claiborne was the weekend anchor of Good Morning America for 14 years. But he has left the show now.

He joined the channel in 1986 and has reported from 40 countries. His colleagues and friends gave him a farewell tribute. He also had a goodbye party at Dakota Bar and was attended by one and all from ABC News. Haines said:

“Working with you is an honor. You are a legendary journalist, and you are one of the most loving people I’ve ever worked with and but also one of the most talented.”

Harris said:

“It’s been one of the great pleasures of my career to spend weekend mornings with you for 8 years,”

Born as Ronald Eldridge Claiborne on 20 August 1953 in San Francisco, CA, 65-year-old Ron was raised in Oakland. He had said:

“I was born in San Francisco but lived there only two days, which is when my mother and father brought me home to Oakland.”

He has an older brother named Keith who is one year elder to him. He studied at the Onondaga Central Junior-Senior High School and later joined Yale University to do his BA in psychology. Later he completed his master’s degree from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.

He has an American nationality and African-American ethnicity. He had taken the DNA testing to trace his ancestry in 2005 and had said at that time:

“Like so many Americans, I have always wondered about my own roots. But as with many African-Americans, I have never known from where in Africa my ancestors came. For most of us, the search ends here, in slavery.”

Ron Claiborne and his career

Ron first worked at an independent newspaper in Richmond, CA. He then joined WNYW-TV in New York City and was a general assignment reporter there. From 1980 to 1982, Ron was with New York Daily News as a general reporter. He covered a lot of political, government, metropolitan news. In the late 1970s, Ron was also with United Press International Wire Service where he served as a reporter and editor.

Ron switched to ABC News in 1986 as a general assignment correspondent based in Boston and he has not looked back since. He used to report for Nightline, GMA, and World News. He has covered a number of major stories in his tenure at ABC News. He has retired now on 16 September 2018. His tenure and career have been blot-free and he has only received praise from everyone.
