Ryan Anderson

American professional basketball player Ryan James Anderson most recently played for the Houston Rockets. He represented the California Golden Bears in college basketball.

The New Jersey Nets selected Anderson with the number 21 overall choice in the 2008 NBA draft; in June 2009, they traded him to the Orlando Magic.

Early Life & Family

Anderson was born in Sacramento, California, on May 6, 1988. His mother is Sue Anderson, and his father is Jack Anderson.

Also close to Ryan are his grandparents. He posted a picture of himself and his grandparents online once, along with the caption:

Similar to that, Anderson’s No. 1 ranked team almost escaped an upset in the postseason series against a Colin Kaepernick-led John H. Pitman High School squad.

Colin scored 34 points in that contest while Anderson scored 50. Colin subsequently went on to play quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers in the NFL.

Ryan, a four-star recruit, was ranked as the No. 98 player and No. 22 power forward in the US in 2006.

College Career

Ryan played for the UC Berkeley Golden Bears for two seasons, averaging 33.0 minutes per game while tallying 18.7 points and 9.0 rebounds in 66 games.

Similar to how he did in 2006–07 when he averaged 16.3 points and 8.2 rebounds as a freshman and was named Honorable Mention All–Pac-10, he too led the Bears in both categories.

He was named First Team All-Pac-10 by the conference and Second Team All-America by The Sporting News as a sophomore in 2007-2008.

He was third in the nation in rebounding with 9.9 per game and led the Pac-10 in scoring with 21.1 points per game (ranked 18th in the US).

On April 3, 2008, Ryan finally announced his intention to forgo his remaining two years of collegiate eligibility and enter the NBA draft.

Professional Career

On June 26, 2008, Ryan was selected by the New Jersey Nets as the 21st overall pick in the NBA Draft.

He played his first NBA game on October 29, 2008, against the Washington Wizards. Ryan played in 66 games in his rookie season with New Jersey, averaging 7.4 points and 4.7 rebounds in 19.9 minutes per game.

On June 25, 2009, Ryan was part of a deal that sent Vince Carter, Tony Battie, Rafer Alston, and Courtney Lee to the Orlando Magic.

In 63 games for Orlando in 2009–10, he played a total of 14.5 minutes per game while averaging 7.7 points and 3.2 rebounds. Ryan played in nine postseason games and made six starts during the regular season.

Similar to this, the athlete played for Orlando in 64 games (14 starts), recording 10.6 points and 5.5 rebounds in 22.3 minutes per game.

On July 11, 2012, the New Orleans Hornets acquired Ryan in a sign-and-trade transaction that sent Gustavo Ayón to the Orlando Magic.

Ryan missed a few games for brief periods as well because of minor injuries. The worst of them happened in December 2010, when he was forced to miss nine straight games due to an ankle ailment.

The player also sustained a neck injury after running into Gerald Wallace on January 3, 2014, when the Pelicans defeated the Boston Celtics 95-92.

In late March, Ryan underwent neck surgery and was benched for the remainder of the season after being forced to be carried off the floor due to his injuries.

Similar to this, the player missed two to four weeks of the competition after being given the diagnosis with an MCL sprain in his right knee on February 22, 2015. Additionally, a sports hernia was discovered in Ryan in 2016.

The health issues initially appeared to be minor irritations, but as the injuries mounted, things grew worse.
