A professional basketball player for the National Basketball Association’s New York Knicks, Ryan Curran Arcidiacono is of Italian descent. In international competition, he has represented Italy under the moniker “The Arch of Dimes.”
Early Life, Family & Education
Joe Arcidiacono and Patti Arcidiacono welcomed Ryan Arcidiacono into the world on March 26, 1994, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
He was raised in Langhorne, Pennsylvania, where he also went to high school, Neshaminy. Ryan’s father encouraged him to start playing basketball at a young age. His father, Joe, loved sports and had played soccer in college like his son.
To further inspire their son, his parents also set up a basketball practice facility with all the necessary tools.
Later, when still a child, he participated in a basketball camp and did well for his high school team.
Jay Wright, a then-head coach of Villanova, expressed admiration for his talent at such a young age and predicted that he will play for Villanova in the future.
Arcidiacono joined Villanova University after graduating from high school and played for the Wildcats, thereby demonstrating the coach’s point.
Ryan lives with his parents, three elder siblings, and younger twin siblings in addition to himself.
High School Career
Ryan participated in athletics until 2012. The high school coach at the time, Jerry Devine, quickly noticed his talent and assisted him in honing his gameplay.
The youthful athlete guided the squad to the PIAA Class AAAA tournament as a sophomore. He scored 18 points on average each game, earning a significant spot on the Class AAAA second team for that tournament.
For the Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions, he also made the trip to North Carolina. Unfortunately, he suffered a serious facial injury in the opening match of the competition and needed sutures.
Nevertheless, he chose to go back to court against the doctor’s advice. He participated in many additional games in the competition as a result. Surprisingly, despite the injury, he had excellent stats.
The entire season of his junior year, he maintained his elite performance. He was frequently slowed down by injuries, which he could not prevent.
The most memorable year of his high school career was his senior year. He had a back ailment shortly after his junior season and made a slow recovery.
He also had a herniated disk in his back, which prevented him from playing in his senior season.
College Career
Soon after graduating from high school, Ryan Arcidiacono signed with the Villanova Wildcats. Although he wasn’t entirely recovered, he made his debut against the University of the District of Columbia and had a debut performance with 11 points.
In the following game, he scored 25 points against Marshall. After Scottie Reynolds in his rookie season, he was the second player to reach this mark.
Ryan guided his team to the NCAA tournament later that year, but despite an outstanding showing, the Wildcats failed to win a trophy.

He recorded 11.9 points, 3.5 assists, and 2.1 rebounds per game in this competition during the same season. In the second season, after regaining his health, he excelled.
With the exception of a few injuries, including being smacked on the nose by a Seton Hall player, Arcidiacono had a decent year as a junior. He quickly recovered, though, and continued to play for his side the rest of the year.
Ryan was shortlisted for the Oscar Robertson Award’s preseason watchlist during his senior year of college. He was also selected as one of the top ten candidates for the Senior CLASS Award.
He averaged 12.5 points and 4.2 rebounds per game in his final season of college.
Professional Career
Ryan unfortunately didn’t be picked in the 2016 NFL draft despite having an outstanding collegiate football career. However, he was released after the San Antonio Spurs selected him for the NBA Summer League.
But only three preseason games into the season, the team cut him loose. He hoped to sign with the Italian squad Juvecaserta Basket at some point in the future. However, he backed out after the team was unable to get to Serie A.
He entered into a two-way contract with the Chicago Bulls on July 25, 2017.

In the 2018 NBA Summer League, he also averaged 7.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, and four assists per game.
Ryan stayed with the Bulls for two more seasons before eventually joining the Boston Celtics. Unfortunately, ten days later, the team dismissed him, and he signed on as an affiliate player with Maine Celtics.
He stayed with the Celtics for a while but saw very little action. Then, in 2022, he signed on with the New York Knicks, although he did not play in any games before being released at the end of January 2022.
