Silento is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer, and actor. His best-known work is his debut single “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)”. His single reached number three on the Billboard Hot 100.
Birth and childhood days
Silento’s real name is Ricky Lamar Hawk. Ricky was born on January 22, 1998, in Atlanta, Georgia. His parents divorced soon after his birth. He was raised by his mom and aunt. His grandmother also helped the family to raise him. More details on his upbringing, school days and college life had not been specified. It has been said that he does not have any siblings.
Days before fame
Ricky’s aunt always wanted him to be a Pharmacist. But Ricky had always been interested in music and was amazed by it. But his first involvement with music was in the 8th grade. He soon caught up with rapping. He used to write his songs and practice the verses as well as he could. On January 25, 2015, his single track was released on Youtube that paved him the path to spotlight. He was also signed with Capitol records In April of 2015. The music video for “Watch Me (Whip / Nae Nae)” was posted to the YouTube channel. In just two months, the video earned 12 million views and 100k likes! Along with Youtube, the song had gone viral on the vine as well. “Watch me (Whip / Nae Nae)” even peaked at #3 on the US Billboard Hot 100.

He has toured and performed in several recognizable stages around the world. Among them, the most noticeable ones were in the BET awards where he performed alongside Black-ish.
In 2016, he was featured with other artists in the song ‘Dessert’ and ‘Lightning in a Bottle’. He also worked as the lead artist on his single ‘Get Em’ the same year. Two other songs ‘Girl in the Mirror’ and ‘Spotlight,’ were also released.
His new song was released in 2017, on Valentine’s Day called “Young Love”. The song was written with Skylar Money. The song was released on his YouTube channel. But the song did not gain popularity as his previous song “ Watch Me” did. His other track ‘Like It Like It’ was released in mid-July.

The trouble with the law
The rapper was banned from leaving the UAE in February 2017. The rapper had failed to appear at two concerts in Al Ain for US$4,000 (Dh14,690) and another at night in Abu Dhabi for $5,000 for which he was contracted. The court ordered Silento to pay Dh300,000 to claimant Makki Taj El Sir Abdel Halim or else he cannot leave. The court also ordered silent to hand over his passports to authorities in Al Ain until payment was made or the case settled.
Case closed
Silento was performing at a nightclub in Dubai when he received the news of his recent travel ban. He also had tweeted a link to a gofundme page to raise himself some money to get back the US. The tweet has been deleted from his account. Rickey appeared in the court and made payments of Dh14720 and Dh11029. His travel ban was then lifted and Silento was free to exit the UAE.

Silento is of straight orientation, even though there have been numerous rumors about him being gay. Silento also prefers not to comment on this matter.
He has revealed in interviews that he met his first girlfriend at the age of 5 and girls he used to date were in their late teens.
