An American professional skateboarder, Steve Caballero was born on November 8 of 1964, in San Jose, California. Steve Caballero was of Mexican and Japanese ancestry. The family name Nakahara belonged to his Japanese-born father.

Steve’s father left the family when he was 11 years old, unaware of his Japanese heritage. It wasn’t until his father’s death in 1986 that he realized what it meant.

Steve’s mother was one of his parents. After their divorce, Steve and his brother returned to their mother, who raised them.

Scoliosis was a medical problem that Steve Caballero was born with. The spine slants as a result of the illness.

Steve started learning to skate when he was twelve. He looked up to the legendary skateboarder Eddie Elguera and wanted to skateboard like him.

On a skateboard, his father once took him to a skatepark. He found the activity so enjoyable that he started to imitate it with ramps he built himself.

But it didn’t work out since he was utilizing homemade boards that weren’t like skateboards and lacked a practice area.

The best news for this ambitious skateboarder was later learned by Caballero: his neighborhood was receiving a skatepark.

While Steve initially flourished at skateboarding, his academic achievement was awful. However, Steve’s mother supported him in his decision to become a professional skateboarder.

At the skating park where he trained, his mother used to wait. Her mother bought his first skateboarding shoes and equipment.

His first board was a wooden Ty Page Free Former skateboard with sealed bearings and grip tape.

Her mother permitted him to wear soccer shin guards and hockey helmets to keep him safe.

However, it wasn’t until 1978—two years later—that his skating career actually began.

Professional Career

In 1979, Steve participated in a national skate competition in Escondido, California, and finished in fifth place. Powell Peralta and Stacy Peralta contemplated sponsoring him after seeing his skill on the ice.

By 1980, Steve had already established himself as a professional. He invented the now-commonplace “cab trick.”

In 1987, Caballero participated in the world championships in Munster, Germany. He skated both on the street and in the vert. He seized both thrones.

Steve set a half-pipe record for the highest 11 feet of air that same year. Danny Way finally shattered his record in 1997 after waiting eleven years to do so.

Additionally, Caballero set a new record for the longest boardslide in 1999.

Caballero joined the Bones Brigade organization that Stacy Peralta founded. The talented, hand-selected group of skaters is in charge of modernizing the sport.

Steve began penning punk songs and had the urge to form a band. But he was just learning guitar at the time. He individually taught himself how to play the bass.

After six months, he gave the name The Faction to his band. Moreover, He wrote some music, performed in musicals, and released their debut track.
