Russian professional ice hockey forward Mikhail Olegovich Grigorenko plays for HC CSKA Moscow in the Kontinental Hockey League. Grigorenko, who was born and reared in Russia, immigrated to North America in 2011 and joined the Quebec Remparts of the QMJHL.

Early Life

On May 16, 1994, famous NHL player,  Mikhail Grigorenko was born in Khabarovsk, Russia.

His older brother, Yuri, played hockey for five seasons in Belarus and Russia’s minor leagues.

Grigorenko moved to Quebec City with his mother and Yuri after being selected by the Remparts in the CHL Import Draft in 2011.

Grigorenko, who had trouble understanding English at first, went to lessons five days a week with a Russian teacher.

Age, Height, and Horoscope

Mikhail Grigorenko is currently 28 years old.

He is a Taurus because of his birthdate on May 16, 1994. It should come as no surprise that he possesses all the traits of a Virgo.

The Russian athlete works very hard. He is a tall man, standing at 6 feet 2 inches and weighing roughly 95 kg. He has brown eyes and his hair is blonde which matches his handsome face.

Junior Career

The feeder squad to CSKA Moscow in the MHL, Krasnaya Armiya, is where Grigorenko began his professional junior hockey career.

As a 16-year-old in 2010–11, Grigorenko contributed 17 goals and 35 points in 43 games in his debut season as a professional.

In June 2011, he was chosen by the Quebec Remparts of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) in the second round of the CHL Import Draft.

Patrick Roy, the Remparts’ owner, general manager, and head coach moved up in the Import Draft to choose Grigorenko.

Grigorenko played 59 games for the Remparts in his first season in North America, contributing 45 assists for 85 points and 40 goals.

NHL Draft

The Buffalo Sabres selected Mikhail Grigorenko, the top-rated forward prospect in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, in the first round at number twelve overall.

The player and the Sabres reached an agreement on a three-year entry-level contract on July 18, 2012.

Due to the NHL lockout, Grigorenko was reassigned to the Remparts to begin the 2012–13 campaign.

He scored 50 points in the 32 games he played before the lockout ended in January.

Grigorenko finished second among the Remparts and eighth overall in the QMJHL with 29 goals and 50 points.

The athlete was invited to the Sabres’ training camp when the lockout ended in January, and he joined the group in time for the season to begin.

The organization decided to keep Grigorenko for the rest of the season after he played five games with the Sabres; otherwise, the season would not have counted because one year of his entry-level contract had already passed.

Joining Buffalo Sabres

Grigorenko committed to the Sabres for the 2013–14 campaign.

Prior to being sent down to junior on January 11, 2014, he only had sporadic appearances in 18 games due to the Sabres’ restructuring of the coaching staff and front office, as well as new head coach Ted Nolan’s order to rely less on young players.

After initially declining, he eventually went to the Remparts after a few days.

Grigorenko excelled with the Remparts in his final junior season, scoring 15 goals and amassing 39 points in 23 games.

Following his early exit from the postseason, Grigorenko was transferred to Buffalo’s American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Rochester Americans, for the remainder of the campaign.

Mikhail was selected for the Olympic Athletes from Russia team and competed in the 2018 Winter Olympics during his first professional season since returning to Russia.

Over the course of six games, he scored one goal and registered four points to help the United States overcome Germany and win the gold medal.

CSKL

On July 3, 2017, Grigorenko signed a three-year contract with CSKA Moscow, his former junior team and a KHL powerhouse, despite interest from the NHL. Grigorenko made the decision to remain in Russia.

Grigorenko led CSKA’s offense, which enabled the team to reach the Gagarin Cup finals and win their first KHL championship. He was named the game’s top forward.

He scored six points during the four-game series victory over Avangard Omsk.

In order to avoid becoming a free agent, Grigorenko chose to go back to Russia. On July 3, 2021, he decided to sign a three-year contract with his old team, CSKA Moscow of the KHL.
