Early Life, Parents. Siblings, Education, and Nationality

On May 2, 1994, Ritu Phogat was given the astrological sign of Taurus. Ritu was raised in Balali, Haryana, India, and is descended from wrestlers.

She is one of the five kids born to Daya Kaur and Mahavir Singh Phogat. In actuality, Mahavir, her father, was once a wrestler before going on to coach wrestlers.

Mahavir unquestionably played a significant role in the enormous success of the Phogat sisters and family. When weightlifter Karnam Malleswari became the first Indian woman to win the Olympics back in the day, Mahavir was inspired to teach his daughters wrestling.

Babita and Geeta registered for classes at the Sports Authority of India facility in Sonipat among them.

Ritu Phogat’s father taught her how to wrestle when she was only eight years old, so she had a disciplined upbringing. She did not enjoy getting up every day at four in the morning to train; however, this eventually turned into a significant part of her habit.

Early Career

Three years later, in 2014, she made her debut in the international ring. She then competed in the 2014 FILA Junior World Championship in Zagreb, Croatia.

Ritu Phogat won two National Wrestling Championship titles in a row by the year 2016.

In Singapore, she competed in the 48kg weight class, winning the 2016 Commonwealth Wrestling Championship.

As 2016 came to a close, Ritu was the most expensive female wrestler at the Pro Wrestling League auction. At the time, she was under contract with the Jaipur Ninjas franchise for 36 lakh INR.

Mixed Martial Arts

Ritu initially discussed her field change with her sisters because her father is somewhat obscure in the world of mixed martial arts.

Phogat signed a contract with the ONE Championship to begin in 2019.

She competed against Nam Hee Kim in her MMA debut at ONE Championship: Age Of Dragons back in November 2019. Ritu Phogat has been driven on the MMA field from the very beginning with the single goal of “becoming the first Indian World champion.”

After her first fight, she later competed on October 20, 2020, against Nou Srey Pov.

Rumor and Controversies

Itsuki Hirata was supposed to be Ritu’s opponent in her most recent match, but Hirata had to withdraw due to an injury. As a result, she later got into a fight with Jenelyn Olsim.

Ritu ultimately prevailed, but it wasn’t without controversy. During the game in Singapore, Ritu appeared to intentionally forehead drive Olsim. It is an unlawful maneuver in the promotion of Asian martial arts.

However, the referee did not give her a yellow card, for which she later had to pay 10% of the fight’s proceeds.

Later, during the post-match interview, Ritu Phogat acknowledged that she had been ignorant of the movement’s ban in that ring.

“I wasn’t aware of it, but the minute the referee instructed me against it, I did not pursue it any further. Yes, I didn’t try it again. I respected the referee’s instructions.”
