John Shuster is a curler from the United States who resides in Superior, Wisconsin. Under his leadership, Team USA became the first American team to win gold in curling at the 2018 Winter Olympics. He also took home a bronze at the Turin Winter Olympics in 2006.

John Shuster | Early Life, Family, Education

John Shuster was born on November 3, 1982, in Chisholm, Minnesota, under the sign of the Scorpio. He hasn’t given any information about his family or parents, although it is likely that he did grow up in a home where curling was practiced.

John’s mother frequently took him to a curling club during his early years, which sparked his interest in the sport. Interesting fact: His father used to curl (a skip).

Similar to how John’s curling career began with a bribe, Dr. Pepper was used to securing the nicest popcorn and pool table at the concession stand for him and his mother.

They had much to do there when they frequently visited, even if they didn’t want to attend the game. But as time passed, John’s love for curling grew, and he started to practice it religiously.

Moving on, because there was a junior league on Saturdays for those who wanted to give it a try, his father stopped him from throwing rocks during the men’s league. When he was twelve years old, he made his first curling throw.

Education

If we talk about John Shuster’s educational background, he graduated from Chisholm High School after finishing his high school courses. After that, he received his degree from the University of Minnesota.

Little is known about his education, just as there is little information about his family history, parents, or siblings.

John Shuster | Career

Before making his professional debut, John Shuster started playing curling when he was a teenager. It all started when he came across a flyer for a junior curling program at school during his sixth-grade year.

John soon joined the game, and he fell in love with it right away. Later, in December 1997, he traveled to Duluth to watch the final Olympic trials. This ultimately proved to be the pivotal moment that pushed and committed him to curl.

Professional Curler

For Pete Fenson’s team, John Shuster played lead when he first started playing curling. His debut abroad was in the 2003 Ford World Men’s Curling Championship.

John participated with his team in the 2005 Ford World Men’s Curling Championship two years later. Sadly, they lost the tiebreaker game, but they came back after winning the 2005 US Olympic Curling Trials.

The 2006 Winter Olympics became a reality thanks to this particular game. The bronze medal that John and his team took home from the event served as the USA’s first-ever medal in the sport of curling.

Shuster’s Team

John Shuster left the group and formed his own after the Olympics competition. He took part in the 2009 Ford World Men’s Curling Championship as a skip.

In the match in Moncton, New Brunswick, his team was eliminated from contention in a tiebreaker game. At the 2009 United States Olympic Curling Trials, he and his team went on to win the match.

This game determined the squad that will represent the United States in the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver. John then received Chris Plys as a replacement from the coaches after failing many last-rock attempts.

After the game, he put his team back together. This time, Zach Jacobson, John Landsteiner, and Jared Zezel made up his team.

The following year, Zach was replaced by John’s longtime teammate Jeff Isaacson. John earned his second victory on a world tour at that precise minute in the 2012 St. Paul Cash Spiel.

Following that, in 2012 and 2013, John earned back-to-back bronze medals at the American Men’s Curling Championship. After taking first place in the qualifying round, John’s third Olympic season got off to a rocky start.

Rejection at High-Performance Program (HPP)

The American squad has already lost a handful of games before the 2018 Olympic games officially begin. With this in mind, the United States Curling Association organized an athlete combine.

To enhance their performance in the Olympics, they terminated Shuster and their comrade Landsteiner from the High-Performance Program (HPP).

As a result, he later created a brand-new group of players dubbed “The Rejects,” which included Tyler George at third, Matt Hamilton at second, and Landsteiner in the front of the pack.

They won the gold medal at the 2015 National Championships by defeating the HPP-selected team.

To earn another bronze medal, they similarly defeated Yusuke Morozumi of Japan. With this, they won the country’s first medal in the World Men’s Championship since 2007.

The US curling team talked about their path to their fourth Olympics trip after winning the 2017 US Olympic Curling Trials.

Pyeongchang Victory

John Shuster’s team lost the first four of their six games at the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics. But ultimately, they prevailed in all three of the remaining games.

They overcame Kevin Koe, a two-time world champion, in the semifinals. They achieved the first Olympic gold medal in curling for the whole United States.

“I guess they figured: this guy failed in the 2010 and 2014 Olympics and he’s getting a little older. It was a learning experience. But I didn’t learn it until halfway through the 2018 Games, which is kind of sad and crazy.”

Post Olympics

After his performance in the Olympics, the derogatory claims that #JohnShusterSucks was trending on Twitter were long gone. His team won the 2019 American Men’s Curling Championship.

At the 2020 United States Men’s Championship, he also defends his title. The 2020 World Men’s Curling Championship was another event in which he was slated to represent the United States.

The event was swiftly postponed, however, because of the ongoing pandemic. After that, he played through a number of games amid the constant disturbance caused by the pandemic.

Growing up with two brothers, she had some rough and tumble experiences. The person who opposes and supports her the most is Jade’s grandfather, Martin Foulkes.

The rest of the family would claim she is special but unlucky because she doesn’t do well in different games, while her grandfather would say she has been bad straight up.

Education

Jade attended Flint High School in her hometown until she turned 16. She eventually quit going to school because she could concentrate so effectively on her martial arts training.

She began competing for the GB Taekwondo Academy in Manchester as her first Taekwondo trivia team in 2012 after enrolling there.

Tokyo Olympics 2020 & Retirement

After failing in her first attempt, Jade had to fight back tears as she walked into the Makuhari Masse Hall in an effort to become the first British woman to win gold at three consecutive Olympic games.

In an interview, she admitted that after the loss, her emotions had been on an emotional roller coaster and that she had been trying to feel better rather than worse. The game was already ended, and she wished she could have added more, but she had already learned her lesson.

Jade admitted that her whole focus is on winning and the thrill of taking the stage as the national anthem is playing. At this point in her career, she will accept nothing less than gold.

Tokyo 2020 had challenges for Jade as well. Up until two hours prior to the bout, she was unaware of her opponent. Because of this, she put a lot of pressure on herself.

Her family and the crowd were also gone because COVID encouraged her and helped her conquer her phobia.

She had previously stated that she intended to take some time off and decide what to do next, including whether she wants to aim for the 2024 Paris Olympics, which would occur in just three years, as opposed to the customary four-year break caused by the Tokyo Olympics’ one-year postponement due to Covid, which would normally occur.

Ivana Spanovic, a Serbian long jumper, is the current European champion as well as a two-time World indoor champion.

At the IAAF Outdoor World Championships in 2013, Vuleta became the first Serbian track and field athlete to take home a medal.

Early Life, Family, and Education

Ljubia Spanovic, the champion’s devoted father, and sporty mother Vesna Spanovic gave birth to Ivana Spanovic. Ivana’s mother was also a long jumper and a well-known athlete in her day.

Spanovic was likewise drawn to her mother’s sport and eventually became what she is now.

Similarly, Ivana’s schooling and education remain unclear, however, we do know some details about her youth.

She was a great Avril Lavigne fan, and one of her friends gave her the CD. She enjoyed all of her songs as a child.

After winning the world junior title in 2008, Ivana received a small girlie automobile named a Citroen C1. She instantly developed an attachment to it as she had just started driving then.

During her younger days, the world champion liked experimenting with her hair. She shaved part of her head but afterward regretted it and claimed to have had a chaotic upbringing.

Ivana enjoyed karate as a child. She trained for two years alongside her older brother and achieved the green belt level.

Karate was discontinued primarily because of her brother’s departure.

Body Measurements, Age, Height, and Weight

Spanovic was born on May 10, 1990, making her 32 in 2022. She is also 5’9″ tall, which adds to her allure (175cm).

Furthermore, the world champion weighs around 63 kg, which is an ideal height-to-weight ratio for an athlete like herself.

Ivana has a lovely complexion that we can describe as a brunette. She has a stunning set of black eyes and flowing black hair.

European Indoor Champion

Ivana is the reigning long jump champion, having won both the European and World Championships. She won gold medals at the World Junior Championships in 2008 and the Summer Universiade in 2009.

Ivana also participated in the following round of the 2008 Olympic Games.

Following that, Ivana was named the country’s Best Young Athlete. As a result, she finished second at the 2007 World Youth, European Junior, and European U23 Championships.

Similarly, she qualified for the 2012 Olympic Games.

Not only that, but Ivana also broke the new national record of 6.82 meters. The Serbian Olympic Committee named her the best female athlete of the year.

Later that year, she finished third at the World Indoor Championships but second at the European Outdoor Championships and the IAAF Continental Cup.

Ivana took silver in the long jump at the Diamond League race.

Ivana Spanovic’s First win

She won her first major title as a high-level athlete in 2015 when she won the European indoor championship. Ivana set a new state record of 6.98 meters there.

She also won another bronze medal at the World Outdoor Championships. All of this happened to her as Spanovic improved her national record twice: first in qualification (6.91) and again in the finals (7.01 got two times).

Ivana went on to win silver in the long jump at the 2015 Diamond League race. As a result, the Serbian Olympic Committee declared her the best female athlete of the year.

Spanovic set a new national record, one of only a few that year. So we can definitely say that 2016 was a very good year for Vesna’s daughter.

Injuries In Leagues

However, pain and injuries are all too common in the lives of athletes. Spanovic was injured, so she only competed in two Diamond League conferences during the offseason.

Similarly, Ivana dominated the early stages of the competition. Nonetheless, she finished fourth in her last attempt.

Following that, Ivana won the 2017 Diamond League race in the long jump for the second time.

Spanovic’s presentation was thrilling to watch during the European Championships qualification round. However, a wound in that round forced her to surrender and protect her designation.

When it comes to the injury, it was to the Achilles tendon. Unfortunately, it forced Ivana to drop her final-season role.

Despite being injured earlier in the summer, Ivana won gold in the championship.

This Serbian champion suffered numerous injuries throughout the summer. As a result, she was forced to withdraw from the World Championships in Doha.

Furthermore, Ivana suffered a metatarsal bone break in June 2020. Because of that incident, she decided to leave the season. As a result, Ivana only played one game in Novi Sad that season.

Net Worth and Salary

The former world champion earns a lot of money from her professional career. Brand endorsement and deals are two other sources of income.

Ivana currently represents the brands Red Bull and Nike. Her net worth is estimated to be $10 million.

Spanovic’s salary is unknown, but she is officially paid in the five figures. We will keep you updated as soon as we receive more information.

Relationship Status| Is she Married?

The Serbian athlete is currently engaged to Marko Vuleta. Marko works as a personal trainer and nutritionist.

Despite the fact that she rarely discusses her husband or their relationship. The photo of those two has gone viral on her Instagram. Ivana mostly shows Vuleta her naked bikini photos.

However, this is not Ivana’s first marriage. The long jumper received her first engagement ring from her then-boyfriend, Vladimir, in 2014.

It lasted a decade before they decided to end it. The couple is said to be on good terms following their divorce.

Ivana and Marko, on the other hand, got engaged a few years ago. The couple will tie the knot on October 1, 2021. Belgrade hosted the Fairytale wedding.

For the time being, the couple does not have children because they are both focused on their careers. They may, however, be planning something, and we may hear about it soon.

Social Media Presence

The world long jump champion is very active on Instagram and Twitter. In the majority of her photos, Spanovic is seen working out. She also has many photos with her fiancé Marco.

Injuries

Car Accident

In a single-vehicle collision in 2016, Mack Horton’s Land Rover overturned. He flipped the car he was riding in over the weekend while four-wheeling with his mates after hitting an embankment.

Fortunately, Mack’s other two friends were able to free him from the driver’s seat as the car overturned. The fact that his automobile was halted by a log helped him sustain only minor injuries is also lucky.

He underwent a CAT and MRI scan as well as a general evaluation by the Australian national team’s medical staff. Later it was found that he had hairline fractures to his cheekbone and nose.

Bee Stung

Mack Horton was stung by a bee on his right arm during practice before to the Commonwealth Games. Since the bee attack had left his entire right hand swollen, Mack found it difficult to swim.

Mack was consequently forced to compete while wearing cumbersome prescription goggles.

“I got stung by a bee the other day in training, and my whole arm has blown up. My tricep doesn’t exist anymore; my elbow doesn’t exist anymore.”

Net Worth and Income

Mack Horton makes the majority of his money through swimming. Despite the fact that he has never disclosed the specifics of his income, his estimated net worth is $5 million.

Additionally, in April 2014, Mack served as the ambassador for the Horton’s Heroes Water Polo team (SHWP) while representing the swimwear manufacturer Speedo. He currently acts as the brand spokesperson for Optus.

Mack Horton | Personal Life & Relationships

Madeline Groves is a competitive swimmer from Australia. Throughout the years 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016, she won the Australian national title in the 200 m butterfly event.

Early Life and Education

Madeline was born in Brisbane, Queensland, on May 25, 1995. Greg Groves is her father, and Claire Brinkman Groves is her mother. She has two brothers, their whereabouts are unknown.

Groves attended Wilston State Primary School before transferring to St Peter’s Lutheran College for high school.

She was the inaugural recipient of the Georgina Hope Rinehart Swimming Excellence Scholarship in 2014.

This enabled her to pursue a Bachelor of Social Science degree at Bond University on Queensland’s Gold Coast.

Swimming Career

Madeline Groves is a natural swimmer. She began swimming lessons when she was a baby. So she understood from away what she enjoyed doing and what she aspired to be in the future.

Swimming had been her ambition since she was a child, and she began competing in swimming events at the age of twelve.

She competed in the Junior Oceania Swimming Championships in Samoa in 2010. In the event, she earned three gold medals and one silver.

She won gold in the 100m and 200m butterfly events, as well as silver in the 50m butterfly. She also won the four 100 m medley events.

Madeline also competed in the Junior Pan Pacific Championships in Hawaii the same year. She won a silver medal in the 200-meter butterfly there.

She took a hiatus from swimming to concentrate on her schoolwork, but she returned after graduating from high school. That’s when her really swimming adventure began.

First Olympic Appearance and the win

Madeline Groves made her Olympic debut at the 2016 Rio Olympics. She participated in the 200m butterfly event for Australia, where she won silver.

She finished barely three seconds behind Spain’s gold champion Mireia Belmonte Garcia. It was a tight victory.

Groves did not win a gold medal but did bring home two silver medals. She took silver in the women’s 800m free relay.

The departure of Madeline Groves from the Olympics

Maddie had performed admirably in her first Olympic game. It was a tight game in which she had a chance to win gold.

Nonetheless, Groves had great aspirations that she would bring gold to the 2020 Olympics.

However, Maddie withdrew from the Australian Olympic Swimming Trials at the last minute. This created difficult concerns about why she did so.

Competing in the Olympics is a once-in-a-lifetime chance that no athlete should pass up. Typically, competitors withdraw from the Olympics due to unusual circumstances such as health difficulties. This, however, was not the case with Maddie Groves.

When questioned why she withdrew, Maddie stated that she did it to oppose the sexist perverts in sports and to teach the lessons.

Maddie posted a lengthy letter on social media emphasizing that she intended to teach lessons to perverts in sports who abuse young women and girls, body shame them, or medically gaslight them.

Groves accused someone she worked with of making her feel uncomfortable. She said she had been sexually abused and had received sexual comments.

The Australian Swimming Association and those working with Maddie were deeply concerned by this. This prompted the Australian Human Rights Commission to intervene and examine the matter of harassment, abuse, and maltreatment of women in sports.

Maddie took a stance to address this difficult problem that is common in sports. Groves created that splash, and its reverberation seemed to endure for years.

Battle with Adenimosis and Endometriosis

Madeline Groves suffers from adenomyosis and endometriosis. Both disorders were just identified in her.

It is a medical disorder in which cells from the uterus (endometrium) burst through the uterine muscle walls and develop outside the uterus. This causes uterine enlargement and severe menstrual flow.

Groves’ career as a swimmer is jeopardized by the sickness. Groves, on the other hand, is upfront about her medical condition on social media. She claims that the discomfort from adenomyosis is excruciating. It feels like someone has stabbed you in the uterus.

Her adenomyosis has also gotten worse. As a result, she took the firm choice to undergo medically induced menopause. Following various scans, it was discovered that she had pre-cancerous lesions on her cervix.

Despite the prospect of not being able to conceive, she underwent surgery the next day to have those lesions removed.

The Australian-born woman was given many drugs to cope with the excruciating pain and even had the Mirena implanted. However, it made her vomit every day for three months. She underwent surgery to alleviate her ailments.

Maddie took a break from swimming to get the disease diagnosed. Her illness was finally identified in 2017.

Net worth

Madeline Groves’ net worth is believed to be between $1 and $5 million. Her financial worth stems from her competitive swimming career.

The Australians are rewarded a hefty $15,000 for their Olympic silver medal. Groves also won around $30,000 as a silver medallist in the Rio Olympics.
