Joey Feek, a name synonymous with great music lived a short but qualitative life! 4 March was the first death anniversary of Joey Feek and we remember her on this day and pay our respect and tribute to her! She had a glorious musical career from 2008 to 2014 when she was diagnosed with cervical cancer and was forced to quit!

Joey Feek was born as Joey Marie Martin to Jack and June Martin. Her birthday falls on 9 September and she was born in 1975 in Alexandria, Indiana, the USA. The family had 5 children and Joey was the middle the others being 3 sisters Jody, Julie, Jessy, and 1 brother called Justin who unfortunately succumbed in a car accident in 1994.
Joey’s father was good at guitar playing and Joey was encouraged by him to learn singing and perform from an early age. Joey set out for Nashville, Tennessee in 1998 to pursue a veterinary career. She met many musicians here and switched to music as a career.
Joey Feek’s musical start
Joey Feek met LeAnn Rimes’ father Wilbur and other musicians. She met Rory Lee Feek at a songwriter night. They seemed to share similar thinking wavelengths and soon became friends and later started dating each other.

She took up singing and sang the backing vocals for Blaine Larsen on her album Off To Join The World which was released in 2004. This album was co-produced by Rory.
She got signed to Sony Nashville and had recorded her solo album in 2005 which was never released. This album was retitled as If Not For You and was released by Farmhouse Recordings after her death.
Her steps to stardom
Joey and Rory participated in CMT’s talent show called Can You Duet. The show aimed to get the country’s next greatest duo. The couple made an audition tape and took the name Joey+Rory. They secured third place on this show.

The couple was signed by Sugar Hill/Vanguard Records through which they released their first three studio albums. Their songs often figured in the top 30 music charts. A total of 8 albums were released by them. The songs were co-written by the couple.

The couple’s relationship
After dating for a couple of years, they tied the knot in June 2002. Joey gave birth to a beautiful named Indiana on 17 February 2014. Indiana’s birth was witnesses and cheered by her family, extended family, and grandparents. It was a home delivery carried out by midwives and Joey felt that it was the best part of her life.

The couple decided to take a 1-year break from music and be with their child. A few days later, they discovered that the child had Down syndrome.

The cancer diagnosis
A few months later in May 2014, Joey was diagnosed with cervical cancer. She underwent surgery for it and was declared cancer-free. She was advised against chemotherapy or radiation since her cancer had clear margins and was completely removed by surgery.

A little over a year later in June 2015, Joey fell ill. It was found that cervical cancer had made a comeback and also spread to the colon. She had another surgery and had intense sessions of chemotherapy and radiation. But by October 2015 it was found that she had terminal cancer and since nothing was working it was better left alone.

She was put under hospice care in November 2015 and the couple maintained a positive attitude throughout. But her need of morphine increased by January 2016. She became unconscious and her organs began to shut down. On 4 March she breathed her last and was buried as per her wish on their farm.
