Popular among us through his role as Logan/Wolverine of the popular Marvel comic X-Men, actor Hugh Jackman is a native of Australia. All thanks to his work on television and in musical theatre, his name has been world-wide famous.

Childhood and personal life

The youngest of five children, Jackman was born on October 12, 1968, in Sydney. He was born to parents Chris Jackman (Father) and Grace Watson (Mother). From Sydney’s University of Technology, he received his communications degree in journalism. To study drama, he attended the Western Australia Academy of Performing Arts.

Immediately after his graduation, he got an offer on the popular TV series Corelli in a starring role. Working in this series gave him fortunate to meet his beautiful wife, Deborra-Lee Furness (actress). They got close during the shoot of the Australian TV show ‘Corelli’. On 11th April 1996, they got married in a ceremony which was held at St. John’s in Toorak, Victoria.

Deborra-Lee Furness could not have a child of her own as she suffered from multiple miscarriages. Therefore, they adopted 2 children; son Oscar and daughter Ava. Hugh Jackman suffers from basal cell carcinoma, a form of skin cancer. He had needed 4 surgeries until not to remove the invasive tumor.

Success in X-Men and Wolverine

The fledgling actor, Jackman starred in some TV series which gave his recognition for his work on the stage. Some of them were Beauty and the Beast, Sunset Boulevard, Oklahoma! etc. His character in the movie Oklahoma! as Curly McLain in 1998 was featured as the actor in an Olivier-nominated performance.

In Bryan Singer’s adaptation of X-Men, he was hired to replace Dougray Scott as Wolverine. The blockbuster movie was released in 2000. This movie includes many casts like James Marsden, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Anna Paquin, Halle Berry, etc.

In 2001, Jackman had starring roles in Swordfish and Kate and Leopold. In Van Helsing (Drama/Fantasy), he played the role of a Famed monster slayer which was released in 2004. In the mystery Scoop (Fantasy/Mystery) with director Woody Allen, Jackman starred in the movie. In the same year, he played role in The Prestige (historical drama), The Fountain, and also lent his voice in Flushed Away and Happy Feet. They were both animated feature films.

Similarly, in 2008 As Drover he played in Australia (drama/Romance). This movie received mixed reviews of the viewers and hence was unable to get popularity. In the year, he played a role as lawyer Wyatt Bose in Deception (Drama/Mystery) which was also unable to make much impression on the public.

Jackman played the role of Charlie Kenton in Real Steel (Sport/Drama) and played the role of Boyd Bolton in a comedy movie titled Butter. In 2012, he came up in Les Mis (Drama/Romance) with the role of Jean Valjean and in the Rise of the Guardians (Fantasy/Adventure) as the Easter Bunny.
