Vanna Marie Rosich, better known as Vanna White, is an American television personality and game show hostess. Most people are familiar with her as a co-host of Wheel of Fortune, which she has been doing since 1982.

Vanna White | Early Life, Family, Education

Vanna Marie Rosich was born on February 18, 1957, in Horry County, South Carolina, not far from North Myrtle Beach, the daughter of Joan Marie (Nicholas) and Miguel Angel Rosich.

She grew up with her mother Joan and stepfather Herbert White Jr. (1925–2022) after her parents split up when she was a little girl.

Her stepfather gave her the name, he worked as a former real estate broker. On April 1, 2022, White stated that he had died peacefully that morning to a flurry of support.

White moved to Atlanta, Georgia, after graduating from high school, where she worked as a model and went to The Atlanta School of Fashion and Design. She shifted to Los Angeles in order to pursue a career as an actor.

How Vanna White started her career?

Before appearing on television for the first time in 1980, White participated in the Miss Georgia USA 1978 pageant.
On June 20, 1980, White made her television debut on The Price Is Right, when she was one of the first four contestants.

In an incomplete film from 1980, White had an appearance; the film was later completed and released as Gypsy Angels in June 1990.

She played Doris in the American slasher film Graduation Day, produced by Troma Entertainment and directed by Herb Freed, and had a brief part in the 1981 thriller Looker.

Media appearances

In the 1988 NBC television film Goddess of Love, which garnered 12% of the public vote on Rotten Tomatoes, she portrayed Venus. She has appeared in cameos on television shows like L.A. Law, 227, Super Mario Bros. Super Show, Simon and Simon, The King of Queens, Full House, and RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars in addition to films like Double Dragon and Naked Gun 33+1: The Final Insult (1994).

Both the American animated television program Captain Planet and the Planeteers and the Canadian animated television program The Real Story of Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star used White as the voice actor.

In May 2022, White appeared as a special guest on RuPaul’s Drag Race: All Stars, and the competitors gave a runway in remembrance of her earlier appearances.

Wheel of Fortune Television Game Show

Vicki McCarty, Summer Bartholomew, and White were the three substitute hostesses chosen to co-host the program. White assumed the role of hostess on December 13, 1982.

White would temporarily take over hosting Wheel of Fortune as MC, Sony Pictures Television announced on November 8, 2019, with the first week of episodes set to air beginning on December 9, 2019.

Maggie Sajak, the daughter of Pat Sajak, assisted White as host for the last week before she resumed on January 6, 2020.

Since 2021, Sajak and White have presided over ABC’s Celebrity Wheel of Fortune. Sajak and White agreed to continue hosting Wheel of Fortune through the 2023–2024 season, it was revealed later in the year.

On the Wheel of Fortune broadcast dated May 24, 2013, White was given a Guinness World Record award for clapping the most frequently. Firstly, Vanna dated actor and former Chippendales dancer John Gibson in the 1980s while he was the centerfold of “Playgirl.” Sometime in the 1980s, they became engaged, but they were unable to wed since Gibson died in a plane crash in 1986.

Eventually, Vanna married restaurant owner George Santo Pietro in December 1990. They have two children: a daughter named Giovanna, also known as Gigi, in 1997 and a son named Nicholas in 1994. White and Santo Pietro divorced in November 2002.

White contributes to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. She has already donated $1.8 million to St. Jude’s. After leaving “Wheel of Fortune,” she plans to continue her philanthropic work.
