Vhong was a victim of an assault case. In the year 2014 on 22 January, Vhong was beaten up severely and suffered injuries. A group of men attacked him inside a condominium and this was in Fort Bonifacio in Taguig. His female friend, Deniece Cornejo had invited him to her house and there he was tied and blindfolded and threatened and attacked. The person who did the assault was later arrested and identified as Cedric Lee. He was accused of attempted rape which he categorically denied. During this time, Vhong’s girlfriend was Tanya Winona and it was supposed that Vhong has been cheating on her. The alleged rape victim was given death and rape threats after the incident and Vhong earned the people’s sympathy.

“I understand that there are certain aspects of this case that raise possible opportunities for discussion. The most important point for discussion would be the way that we are now discussing rape. It’s disgusting how certain people have taken this as an opportunity to attempt to discredit rape victims as people who are just crying wolf. Many women are victims of sexual assault and sexual abuse and we must acknowledge this and attempt to prevent these terrible acts from happening. This is truth regardless of the veracity of the claims of Deniece Cornejo.”
