About the show Wicked Tuna

The show began airing on National Geographic Channel on April Fool’s Day of 2012. It gives an insight into the world’s oldest industries of tuna fish catching and also discusses the fate of the bluefin tuna as they are fished and killed for food.

There are some regulations in place which the Captains adhere to as they competitively fish for the special tunas. They have to limit themselves to the size of the fish and also the quota for the season. They cannot exceed the limit lest it turns illegal.

The fishermen battle to catch the maximum number of the tunas which yield them a lucrative business. Sushi chefs give as much as $ 15000 for one fish. The commercial fishermen are basically from Gloucester, Massachusetts. Season 7 of this show aired from March 2018.

There are different types of vessels used for this commercial fishing. Most of them are custom-designed especially for the purpose.

Wicked Tuna cast member dies

Nicholas S. “Duffy” Fudge who is a cast member of the reality show died on July 19, 2018, at the young age of 28. He was the first mate on Captain Tyler McLaughlin’s fishing boat, Pinwheel and is said to have died unexpectedly.
