Steve Chen is one of the internet entrepreneurs who has co-founded YouTube channel. He is a Taiwan-American person who was born in August 1978 in Taiwan and was also raised there. He was 8 when he migrated to the USA along with his family. They settled in suburban Chicago. His full name is Shih Steven Chen.
He was a student at John Hersey High School, Arlington Heights, and the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy. He was a gifted child and used to work at the local 7-11 store and also at Jewel/Osco supermarket during his teen days. Steve Chen studied at the University of Illinois at Urbana, Champaign.

Steve Chen and the creation of YouTube
After graduating from this University with a degree in Computer Science in 1999, Steve Chen worked at Pay Pal. It was here that he met Chad Hurley and Jawed Karim. At Pay Pal, Steve Chen was a programmer and later he also was involved in their China Operation from 1999-2005.
He joined Chad Hurley and Jawed Karim and the trio founded YouTube in 2005. This is basically a website on which videos can be uploaded for sharing. The concept came up when they realized that it was difficult to share videos via email and thought that a software package was needed to be able to share videos.
Steve Chen worked as a Chief Technology Officer at YouTube and he continued until it was sold to Google on 16 October 2006 at the high price of $ 1.65 billion. Chen received 625366 shares from Google with an additional 68721 shares. He also got a position in the Trust. These shares are worth more than $ 350 million. Chad Hurley had said on YouTube:
“We started this to solve a personal problem. Now we’re creating a new way to reach audiences in an era where the traditional TV time slot doesn’t exist anymore.”
YouTube website has grown remarkably and is one of the most popular websites. It was ranked in the top 10 just within one year after its launch. People loved it and started using it and putting it to different uses. This sharing platform quickly gained a lot of users and the number is growing.
More than 65000 new videos are uploaded daily on YouTube and there is an average of 100 million views to the site. Steve Chen is currently working for Google. Before he started YouTube, Steve Chen had also worked with Facebook for a few months.
For all his work for the internet world, Steve Chen has been named as ‘one of the 50 people who matter now by Business 2.0 in June 2006. His name was also included in the Top 15 scientists of Asia by Asia Scientist Magazine in 2011. He is now working on other projects with Chad Hurley with Yahoo Inc. and has a new company with Chad Hurley which they have named as Avos Systems.

Steve Chen’s wife and married life
Steve Chen is of Chinese descent. He got secretly married to a former Google employee (product marketing manager) who is of Korean roots. Her name is Park Ji-Hyun who later was rechristened as Jamie Chen.
It was later revealed that this marriage had taken place in 2009. They had met in 2008 in Korea and for Steve Chen, it was love at first sight. They had a brief courtship period before tying the knot. Their son was born in July 2010.
