German Garmendia was born as German Alejandro Garmendia Aranis on 25th April 1990. His birthplace is Copiapo in Chile. Similarly, his nationality and ethnicity is Chilean. German Garmendia’s father died in a car accident when German Garmendia was just 3 years old. His parents’ names are Germán Luis Garmendia Macías and Cecilia del Carmen Aranis Mancilla.
He and his older brother Diego used to live separately. They were reunited later in life. This reunion took place in the coastal city of Los Vilos in Chile. German studied at the El Chañar Basic School. He did his graduation from Escuela Técnico Profesional (ETP) in 2004.

German Garmendia has a keen interest in music from a very young age. He and his brother formed a band which was named as ‘Zudex’. This band used to perform and had made some albums. German Garmendia’s friends encouraged him to showcase his talent on the internet. On their persuasion, he made his first YouTube channel called as HolaSoyGerman’ and uploaded his first video on it in 2011.
HolaSoyGerman means ‘Hi I’m German’. His channel soon was noticed by many and got a number of subscribers. In a matter of two years, it had grown remarkably.
In 2013, German Garmendia was accused of employing some wrong means to gain subscribers. He created and posted a video on his channel denying any such fraud and explained that he did not resort to subscriber grabbing by unlawful means/bots. German Garmendia also created another YouTube channel and named it as ‘JuegaGerman’. This also got the attention of the public and he soon there was a dramatic rise in its subscription as well.
His HolaSoyGerman channel has more than 32.1 million subscribers while the second channel’s subscription exceeds more than 20 million. As regards the total number of views, HolaSoyGerman has more than 17 billion views whereas JuegaGerman has more than 5 billion views. His channels are the most subscribed channel in the Spanish language.
He has a band called as Ancud and a partner named Machinima. He is a recipient of the ‘Icon of the Year’ award of MTV Millennial Awards in 2014 and 2015. He had made appearances on the ‘YouTube Rewind’ in 2014-2016. He has also been cast as Julian in 2016 film ‘Ice age: Collision Course’. He has also penned a book called ‘#ChupaElPerro’. German Garmendia- The Mexico overwhelming welcome
German Garmendia was supposed to appear at the Telmex Digital Village in Zocalo, Mexico City. The number of attendees for the show far exceeded the expected limit and there was chaos at the venue.
Due to the heat, many attendees fell ill and fainted. The confusion led to people breaking barricades and entering into the restricted areas. A light pole fell onto the crowd injuring ten people. The crowd went out of control and security personnel had to be called in.
The crowd was made to disperse and German’s event had to be unfortunately canceled. German Garmendia took to Twitter to express his regret and sorrow over not been able to hold the event as promised.

German is currently dating former MTV VJ named Lenay Chantelle Olsen. Her former name was Lenay Dunn. He had disclosed to his fans about this relationship by means of a special video.
