Zak Starkey: Age, Bio, Parents, Family, Siblings, Childhood, Ethnicity
Zak Starkey was born on September 13, 1965, in London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham, London to Richard “Ringo Starr” Starkey, drummer for The Beatles, and Maureen Cox. Being the son of one of The Beatles meant music was all around him since he set his hands and knees, and later his feet, on the ground.
As the son of a very famous musician, he was expected to follow in his father’s footsteps by fans and media alike. On the other hand, Ringo Starr objected to that possibility, foreseeing his son as a lawyer or a doctor instead. However, Ringo didn’t take the needed precautions to avoid a future in music for his son–he actually fueled it constantly.
Zak Starkey: Professional Acting Career, Stage Acting
Zak received his first drum set when he was 11 years old. A Ludwig set with a 20-inch bass drum, 12 and 14-inch toms, and a piccolo snare was a gift from Ringo Starr. During his daily sessions, Zak set the package on the dining room table, making his mother insane.
Before Zak went to visit Ringo Starr in America after his parents divorced in 1975, he would spend a few days with Keith Moon at his Malibu home. When Keith Moon returned to England, he often met up with Zak Starkey. Keith Moon was the one who gifted Zak Starkey with his first professional drum set. It was Zak Starkey’s 12th birthday present.
After that, Zak started playing in bands when he was 12 years old. Zak joined his first band, The Next, with his next-door neighbors’ brothers and a bassist when they were all in their late teens and early twenties. Then he and The Next’s bassist formed Monopacific. That project allowed him to continue working as a musician for another two years.

Finally, his first major gig was with none other than John Entwistle of The Who. John Entwistle saw Zak Starkey perform with Monopacific at Dingwalls in North London when he was about 16 years old. Following the concert, John approached Zak and asked if he could collaborate with him.
Ringo Starr
Fruitfully, the 1990s proved to be extremely helpful as he became a member of Ringo Starr’s comeback tour in 1989, playing drums with Jim Keltner, Levon Helm, and Ringo himself. Ringo Starr and His All-Starr Band, a recording of the tour’s final concert, was released in 1990.
Likewise, he was the official drummer for the All-Starr band from 1992 to 1995, performing on the albums Ringo Starr and His All-Starr Band Volume 2: Live from Montreux (1993) and Ringo Starr and His Third All-Starr Band-Volume 1 (1995). (recorded in 1995, released in 1997).
He was also a member of The Lightning Seeds from 1997 to 2000, taking part in the Tilt recording sessions (1999). Zak Starkey worked with Oasis from 2005 to 2008, in addition to his high-profile gigs with The Who in the first decade of the twenty-first century.
